The 2025 Design Perspectives x Golden Pin Salon’s Asian tour is officially underway. Following successful events in Shenzhen and Shanghai, the salon is set to make its next stop in Bangkok—a key hub of creativity in Asia—on Saturday, April 26.

This year, the Bangkok event is once again co-hosted with Thailand’s leading design and arts magazine, art4d, and will be presented on a larger scale. The exciting speaker lineup includes well-known Thai creatives such as architecture studios Physicalist and Shma Company Limited, lifestyle brand PDM Brand, and graphic designer Manita Songserm. From Taiwan, Borden Tseng, director of architecture studio Q-LAB, and Brian Liu, creative director of emerging design team Local Remote, will also join the conversation. The salon promises a vibrant dialogue on design perspectives across cultures, disciplines, and generations.

Session 1: “Hidden Codes - The Language of Space, Form and Nature”

Design is filled with unseen patterns and silent messages. Hidden Codes explores the invisible systems and logic that shape our world—from the rhythms of nature and contextual influences to the world of spatial design. Decoding these hidden languages reveals new ways to connect, create, design, and interpret the world. This session will reveal the silent messages embedded within the design projects of the keynote speakers, offering more profound insight into their creative processes.

- Invited Speaker: Karjvit Rirermvanich, Founder & Director of Physicalist, Thailand

With a deep belief in the inseparability of design and construction, Karjvit’s work explores the nuanced dialogue between people, nature, and built space. A graduate of Chulalongkorn University and the AA School of Architecture in London, he has cultivated a unique “architect-maker” approach through hands-on experimentation and full-scale fabrication.

His diverse background spans practice at Architects 49, academic roles across several Thai universities, and editorial work as former editor of art4d magazine. In 2024, his residential project Baan Klai Wat received the Golden Pin Design Award, recognized for its refined interpretation of tropical climate, natural surroundings, and everyday living philosophies.

- Invited Speaker: Yossapon Boonsom, Founding Director of Shma Company Limited, Thailand

Yossapon Boonsom is the founding director of Shma Company Limited, a landscape architecture firm focused on advancing sustainable and inclusive urban futures through green infrastructure. Their recent projects—including AIA East Gateway, Sky Forest Scape, and the we!park—earned recognition from the Golden Pin Design Award in 2024.

Beyond his professional practice, Yossapon actively promotes public engagement and environmental advocacy as co-founder of non-profit organizations Friends of the River (FOR) and we!park, transforming vacant urban spaces into green public areas through participatory design. He also serves as editor-in-chief of the we!park platform, championing the belief that “a little crack can hack the city.”

- Invited Speaker: Borden Tseng, the Director of Q-LAB Architects, Taiwan

Representing Taiwan at the Bangkok salon is Borden Tseng, an architect with degrees from Carnegie Mellon University and Columbia University. His professional experience includes positions at prestigious firms such as Rafael Viñoly Architects, Perkins & Will, and Pei Cobb Freed & Partners in New York, as well as JJP Architects & Planners in Taiwan, before he returned to Taiwan to found Q-LAB, where he now serves as director.

Q-LAB’s work spans architecture, landscape, and interior design, with a diverse portfolio that includes sports facilities, hotels, office buildings, universities, and residential projects. The studio has received international recognition, including awards from Architizer A+, World Architecture Festival (WAF), and Japan’s Good Design Award. In 2024, Q-LAB won a Golden Pin Design Award for its project The Chudong Parking Structure, which draws inspiration from the Hakka paper umbrella. The design reflects an innovative approach to integrating cultural context and urban infrastructure.

Session 2: “Cultural Codes - The Language of Design in Asia”

Design is deeply rooted in local heritage, cultural narratives, traditions, philosophies, social behaviours and ways of thinking. Cultural Code will decode how local culture influences design and how cross-culture adaptations can create unexpected outcomes.

- Invited Speaker: Doonyapol Srichan, Founder & Creative Director of PDM Brand, Thailand

Doonyapol Srichan, founder of Thai lifestyle brand PDM BRAND, is known for blending everyday functionality with modern aesthetics and Thai craftsmanship. Starting with lightweight, easy-to-clean floor mats designed to meet local lifestyle needs, the brand has expanded its product line to include items such as hangers and brooms—redefining the look and feel of everyday household objects.

In 2024, PDM BRAND celebrated its 10th anniversary with a special exhibition, PDM Supervision, at Bangkok Design Week. Featuring playful “unboxing” installations, the exhibition invited visitors to engage with the brand through interactive storytelling and product experiences. The curatorial concept showcased PDM’s creative energy and cultural relevance, earning the brand a Golden Pin Design Award for its distinctive approach.

- Invited Speaker: Manita Songserm, Graphic Designer, Thailand

Thai graphic designer Manita Songserm is known for her experimental use of typography and layout, creating works that blur the line between graphic design and contemporary art. A member of the prestigious Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI)—with fewer than ten members in Thailand—Manita is recognized for her distinct visual language.

Her poster for the exhibition Crossover II: The Nature of Relationships, held at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, won the Best of the 2024 Golden Pin Design Award, praised for its abstract yet poetic narrative capturing Thailand’s transition into contemporary art.
